Hawthorne, FL – The Hornet Sports Network is excited to announce that Matt Surrency, former mayor of Hawthorne and a dedicated community leader, has accepted the position of head baseball coach at Hawthorne High School. Surrency, who has a deep-rooted passion for baseball and a long history of public service, brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the team.

Surrency served as Hawthorne's mayor from 2011 to 2021, where he played a pivotal role in guiding the city through financial challenges and spearheading numerous community improvement projects. His tenure was marked by a commitment to local development and a hands-on approach to leadership, which he now aims to bring to the baseball field.

"I am thrilled to be returning to my roots and contributing to the community in a new capacity," Surrency said. "Baseball has always been a passion of mine, and I look forward to working with the talented young athletes at Hawthorne High School to help them achieve their full potential."

Surrency's connection to baseball dates back to his youth, where he developed a love for the game and a desire to coach. His leadership skills, honed through years of public service, will undoubtedly inspire and motivate the Hornet baseball team.
